Thank you to my lovely church family for the very kind gift, flowers and card that I was presented with last Sunday.  It was very thoughtful and meant so much!
Much love,

New Caretaker

Following Andy Warren’s redeployment to the new role of Bookings’ Administrator and the resignation of our long-time cleaner we have appointed a new caretaker to cover the cleaning, general maintenance and caretaking role. Gary Kneale will join the staff team on Monday June 5th. Do say hello when you see him around the building and make him feel welcome as part of the All Saints staff team.

Christian Aid Week

Thanks to all those who contributed to Christian Aid Week.  The total collected from the two church services plus the online JustGiving page was £301, from which a further £57.50 will be recovered in Gift Aid, making a total of £358.50.  Some will have given directly to Christian Aid, making the total from All Saints higher.

If you would like to come, please get in contact with gemma.gaudion@allsaints.church. The poster above gives you the opportunity to claim 10% off tickets if you book before Sunday 28th May.
See you there!

Spring Harvest Briefing

Julie & Steve Tynegate have been going to Spring Harvest for at least 30 years. It is a Christian Festival that takes place at Butlins in either Skegness or Minehead with accommodation in chalets.  These are either self-catering or all-inclusive, and provide different levels of accommodation, depending on size and price.   We normally book a silver apartment, self-catering, which works well for us. Spring Harvest generally takes place around Easter time, and the 2024 Spring Harvest is between 1st – 5th April at Butlins, Skegness.

We have been going to Skegness as it is nearer for our family to join us.

There’s great music, Spirit-filled teaching and seminars, and there are excellent kid’s activities, added to this there is all the fun of Butlins and the beach.  Nothing is compulsory, you can do as little or as much as you like!

Julie & Steve are happy to coordinate a group to go to Skegness in 2024, if anyone from the All Saints family wanted to go.  If you think you might be interested, we would love to talk to you, a link to the website is here: https://www.springharvest.org/

We will need to know all the details before we book.  Please note that bookings open on June 14th, so please come and talk to us before the end of May.

What have I been getting up to since you let me loose on the local canal?  You may have been wondering, or not, but time for a bit of an update anyway, I thought…

The ‘visible’ bit is that once a week or thereabouts I spend up to half a day wandering up and down the towpath, typically from Hoole Lane lock into the City and along to Tower Wharf basin, but sometimes in the other direction out to the Cheshire Cat.  I usually end up chatting to people here and there and every now and then find something that a boater needs help with.

Over winter the hire boats and most leisure boats tend to hide away and the only boats moving on the canal are the liveaboards, of which there have been more around this winter than before.  This may be because I might not have noticed them in the past, but is probably a sign of the times, it being well documented that more people are taking to life afloat, for various reasons including financial.   Now that we are into May the hire and leisure boats are back and the canal is getting busier.

The ‘invisible’ bit is meetings, training, phonecalls and reporting, all of which adds up, so I’m finding I’m spending getting on for 30 hours a month on the chaplaincy, which is fine, although I’m aware that as I get to know more boaters the workload, if I can call it that, is likely to increase.

There are of course various issues that present themselves to boaters, including some that are new.  Did you know, for instance, that liveaboard boaters who don’t have a home mooring (such things being very expensive) and therefore cruise ‘continually’ (ie they have to move on every 14 days) around the canal network do not qualify for the £400 energy support payment those of us in houses, or in marinas, have received?   We need to persuade government to try to sort out this particular injustice which, as you will appreciate, affects most those who are most vulnerable.

I hope to be in a position soon to offer to church groups a presentation on the work of the chaplaincy but, in the meantime, if you wish to support the ministry or have any queries do give me a call.   Also, if anyone fancies a walk along the canal with me to see what it is all about then you would be very welcome.

Jim Ellis

Launch of “All Saints Free Cycle” Facebook Group

Most of us have things lying around at home that have been outgrown or that we don’t need anymore. We now have a Facebook group which allows members to offer items for free, and also to ask for items they require, either for themselves or for others in need!

The idea is simple:

STEP 1: JOIN
Search Facebook for “All Saints Free Cycle” and request to join the group. This is a private group and will only have members of All Saints in it.

STEP 2: POST
Post photos of the items you are offering, including a brief description and any measurements if necessary.

STEP 3: GIVE
Once someone has commented on your post that they would like your item, arrange collection. This can be either in church after a service, or picked up/dropped off privately.

This will hopefully be a great way to bless each other within our church family, and also to support those we know to be in need in our wider community. It’s also an opportunity to build connections with members of the congregation you may not often speak to in church on a Sunday!

Any questions, feel free to speak to Helen Foden

News from Hoole Church of England Primary School

Our school vision is ‘Let your light shine’ (Matthew 5:16) and pupils from our school certainly shone brightly on Monday evening.

We hosted a Summer Extravaganza of music talent at All Saints’ Church, welcoming family, friends and governors to celebrate the children’s talents in music.

The programme for the evening including performances from our infant and junior choirs as well as recitals on numerous musical instruments including the piano, keyboard, guitar, violin and ukulele.

Pupils played and sang with such confidence and it was wonderful to see the results of the hard work they invest in weekly lessons. They certainly were determined to let their lights shine brightly!

One little girl from Year one commented that she had to undo her buttons when she was singing because her light was shining under her cardigan!

It was a great evening and I am very proud of the staff and pupils involved in presenting such an enjoyable celebration of the musical talent in our school.

Thanks, as ever, to Craig and Gemma for hosting this event in the church and for their ongoing support of our school.

Ros Flanders, Headteacher
